Preparing For Sentencing

Where should I send letters of recommendation? Letters of recommendation should be submitted directly to your attorney for review.  The attorney will send appropriate  ones to the court with copies to the investigating probation officer and to the government.

What is important in a letter of recommendation? Of primary importance is information that may indicate hope for a law abiding future.  Examples might be an offer of employment, an opportunity for further training or education, a stable and healthy place to live, rehabilitation opportunities to cope with drug, alcohol or sex abuse and the like.

Will I be able to speak to the judge during the sentencing hearing? Yes, you will be afforded the opportunity.  It is best that you discuss your desire to speak to the judge with your attorney prior to the sentencing hearing.
