Voluntary Surrender to a BOP Facility

Can I remain free and report to the Bureau of Prisons on my own?
The sentencing  judge has authority to grant you the privilege of surrendering voluntarily to the facility designated by the Bureau of Prisons. That decision is normally made at the time of sentence and greatly depends upon your earlier cooperation while on pretrial services supervision and/or information provided in the presentence report.

Does supervision continue during this period of time?
You remain on supervision by a pretrial services officer and must report as directed by that officer until the date of your surrender to the Bureau of Prisons or to the U.S. Marshal’s custody.

Where will I be expected to surrender?
You will be advised by the Bureau of Prisons of the facility where, and the date and time when you are to surrender. It is important that you follow the instructions given and be on time!  Further practical information can be found on this website at the tab entitled Bureau of Prisons.  That section will provide you with websites of the prison facilities in which persons convicted in the Middle District of Louisiana are most frequently housed.
