About Us

TYSK–Things You Should Know, is an effort to provide defendants, their families, and other interested persons with a basic, practical understanding of criminal court procedures used in Federal Court for the Middle District of Louisiana. It is our hope this information will help you prepare well and avoid unnecessary misunderstanding. This should reduce the level of stress but more importantly it should help you prepare for what is required.

There is also a section entitled Bureau of Prisons. The material provided in that section is taken, unedited, from Bureau of Prisons sources and is subject to change independently of the editors of this website.  We do provide for you the web address of the BOP and of each of the facilities to which most of offenders from this district are incarcerated.

This website is developed with oversight of the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services for the Court in the Middle District of Louisiana. It is, however, produced and maintained by volunteers who have retired from service as U. S. Probation Officers.

Anyone studying the information presented here should understand it refers to procedures in this district only. Defendants facing prosecution in any other federal district should not rely on this information except, perhaps, to formulate questions that may then be asked of a pretrial services officer in that district.

We welcome your questions, criticisms and suggestions. Please feel free to contact us by email at TYSK
